Types and Classes of Train Seats in Bangladesh Railway

All trains in Bangladesh have several types of seats or coach classes. When buying tickets, especially when buying tickets online, many people do not understand what kind of seat it is or what is the special advantage of that seat. Again, many people may not know the full form of the seat class code what that seat is or what are the advantages and disadvantages. This is our article for them. The details of the type of seat or coach class type in different trains in Bangladesh are given below.

There are three types of classes in Bangladesh Railway: Air-conditioned Class or First Class AC, First Class and Second Class. "Third Class" was also introduced in Bangladesh Railway, but discontinued on 1 August 1989. During the British period "Third Class" was most popular among the native Indians whereas Europeans were familiar with "First or Second Class".

The 'Air-conditioned/First Class AC' also known as Tapanukul (in Bangla তাপানুকুল) has three subcategories: "Air-conditioned Berth", "Air-conditioned Seat" and "Air-conditioned chair". "Air-conditioned chair" also known as "Snigdha(স্নিগ্ধা in Bengali)"

The 'First class (Non-AC)' also has three subcategories like Tapanukul/Air-conditioned: "First Birth", "First Seat" and "First Chair". The 'Second Class' category also has three subcategories: 'Shovon Chair', 'Shovon' and 'Sulabh'. Most trains have first-class and second-class services. Some trains have separate main compartments. Intercity and long-distance trains have food and power cars connected.

Many intercity trains are partially air-conditioned and have berths attached. The trains also provide the necessary sheets, pillows, blankets and food for the passengers.

3rd Class Services closed from August 1, 1989.
2nd Class SULOV SULOV is the coach of the local train. The most affordable and comfortable non-class chair in Bangladesh is called SULOV or cheap chair. Like a local bus. |
SHOVAN Shovan Non AC decent class chair seat. All mail trains in the country and some intercity trains have decent seats. This is the cheapest seat on the train and it is not comfortable.
S_CHAIR Shovan Chair Non AC Chair Coach. This second-class elegant chair seat is on almost all intercity trains. The rent of the elegant chair is higher than that of the elegant. The seats are fairly comfortable. Decent chairs are better seats than decent ones.
First Class F_CHAIR First Class Chair These are Non AC chairs. F_CHAIR are more comfortable seats than an elegant chair (F_SEAT). Not all intercity trains have this type.
F_BERTH First Class Berth (Sleeper) These are Non AC cabin seats. This class is available on the night train. There is a chance to sleep here. During the day this coach class F_SEAT is used as a first-class seat.
F_SEAT First Class Seat Non-AC cabins can be used as this seat in the day train. There is no opportunity to sleep here, you have to sit down. The F_BERTH cabins are used as F_SEAT seats during the day.
AC Chair SNIGDHA AC Chair AC coach chair seat. Although not all intercity trains in the country have smooth coaches on most popular destinations. The seat is more comfortable than the comfy chair. Travel is also comfortable as there is a full coach AC.
AC_B AC Berth (Sleeper) This class is only available on night trains. There are 2 or 4-seater cabins. This cabin is on the long-distance intercity night train of Bangladesh. These are the most comfortable and expensive seats among the trains in Bangladesh.
AC_S AC Seat These are air-conditioned cabin seats. Originally AC berth (AC_B) cabins were used as AC seats during daytime travel.

Train Ticket Buying Tips

  • It is better not to buy Shovon tickets for long-distance train travel. Long-distance travel will be difficult for you as the seats are not comfortable. On top of that, more people are standing in the decent coach and the environment is not so good.
  • If you want to travel by train at a low cost and a little comfortable seat then a comfortable chair (non-AC) seat will be best. The cost will be less and you will get comfort while sitting in the seat.
  • Snigdha is best when you think of an AC coach with low cost.
  • The cabins are used as seats during the day and at night. But sitting in the cabin is a little difficult. As such, it will be comfortable to travel in a comfy chair or soft chair during the day without going to a non-AC first-class seat (F_SEAT) or AC seat (AC_S).
  • If you travel with family and want privacy, it would be better to book the whole cabin day or night.
